Andrea Marburger, LCSW

Psychotherapist & Founder of A Dash of Mindfulness

I moved to Richmond, VA about three years ago. Somewhere along the way, I grew into becoming a therapist, a business owner, a wife, and a mother. Each role has taught me something, although motherhood has probably done the most to challenge my perfectionism. It has a way of making you reconsider the things you've spent years trying to get right. The standards you hold yourself to, the expectations you carry, and the things you once thought were nonnegotiable can look a little different when you start asking: What is really worth it? What's actually the point?

I'm a recovering perfectionist. I know what it's like to put a great deal of energy into being capable, dependable, and good at what you do. I've also learned that being able to carry something doesn't necessarily mean you should, and that the life you've worked so hard to build deserves to be examined every now and then. Does it still fit? Does it reflect what matters to you now? Or are you still working toward a version of yourself you decided you needed to be a long time ago?

My clinical work has given me the opportunity to sit with people through some of life's most difficult experiences, including violence, violation, loss, and life-threatening crises. I've witnessed the determination to live that can exist on the other side of experiences that nearly took life away. I don't mistake that determination for an absence of pain, or assume that surviving something means you've somehow made peace with it.

I also know that the aftermath of trauma can involve other people's discomfort, pity, and well-intentioned attempts to make the unbearable easier to hear. You can end up managing their reactions on top of everything else. You won't need to do that with me. You don't have to protect me from the truth of what happened to you. We can talk about it without minimizing the violence, softening the language, or turning your experience into an inspirational story.

Today, I work with adults navigating anxiety, panic, perfectionism, and trauma. I'm interested in what's happening beneath the surface—not just what you're struggling with, but the expectations you've inherited, the identities you've built, and the parts of yourself that may have gotten lost along the way.

What Therapy Looks Like

There isn't one path to meaningful change. The kind of work we do depends on what brings you here, what you're hoping to change, and how you'd like to approach it. Whether you're looking for ongoing support, a focused treatment for trauma, or a deeper exploration of yourself, we'll make room for the work that matters.

Panic & Perfectionism

Ongoing therapy offers space to understand the patterns driving anxiety, overthinking, and the pressure to get everything right. We'll look at how those patterns show up in your thoughts, your body, and your daily life, while practicing new ways of responding.

Trauma & CPT

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, 12-session treatment for PTSD. Together, we'll examine how trauma has shaped your beliefs about yourself and the world, making room for a more balanced understanding of what happened and what comes next.

Shadow Work & Self-Exploration

Sometimes the work isn't about treating a symptom. It's about questioning an identity, understanding patterns that operate outside your awareness, or exploring what no longer fits. A Shadow Work Intensive offers three dedicated hours for that kind of exploration.

Where We Meet

Individual therapy is available virtually throughout Virginia, with in-person options in North Chesterfield for those in the Richmond area. Shadow Work Intensives can be scheduled virtually or in person. Limited Saturday in-person appointments for individual therapy may also be available when circumstances and scheduling allow.

Shadow Work Intensives in North Chesterfield, VA

A Three-Hour Journey to the Inner Self

For when the story you’ve been living no longer fits

Something is keeping you from realizing your best self. We spend years constructing identities that help us survive, belong, succeed, and make sense of our lives. Eventually, some of those identities stop fitting.

You may have considered therapy could help move the needle, but committing to months of weekly sessions doesn’t feel quite right. Instead consider making room for a one time intensive that fits into your schedule and timeline. For many people investing in just one afternoon of focused therapeutic work can make all the difference. These can be done virtually or in person in North Chesterfield, VA.

Your three hour intensive experience is designed with you in mind. From the moment you arrive, you'll have a few thoughtful comforts to help you settle in, feel at ease, and make the most of your time.

A few things you'll find on the menu:

  • Aromatherapy: Choose from a selection of scents for gentle oil infusion throughout your session.

  • Cozy comforts: Comfy socks and a soft blanket are available for guided active imagination and breathwork.

  • Herbal tea: Enjoy a selection of herbal teas during processing and reintegration time.

Think of it as a little space to slow down, get comfortable, and turn your attention inward. The details matter, too.
